Phaedra Hise is a Contributor to Fortune Small Business magazine, a former Staff Writer for Inc. and former Contributing Editor for Virginia Living. Her award-winning work has been anthologized and published in Glamour, Fortune Small Business, Inc., Salon, Forbes ASAP, Popular Mechanics, Ladies’ Home Journal, American Heritage, Prevention, Smithsonian Air & Space and The Boston Herald. She has written four books, most recently Pilot Error: Anatomy of a Plane Crash, called "a compelling page-turner" by the Boston Globe.
Known primarily for insightful business writing and colorful immersion journalism, Hise has made a career out of studying a wide range of complex topics. She explains the issues clearly and entertainingly in her stories and books.
She has covered subjects including small aircraft accidents, small business growth, big problems raising kids and what it feels like to rev a motorcycle around a track at over 100 mph. Living the world she covers, Hise is an instrument-rated private pilot, award-winning triathlete, scuba diver, licensed motorcycle rider, spouse of a serial entrepreneur and co-founder of a growing literary nonprofit. She is also fluent in Spanish and Mexican culture.
Hise has given radio commentary and interviews, appeared on national television, and speaks regularly at conferences and universities. Along with her husband, daughter, a dog and two pet frogs, she lives in Richmond, Virginia.
